Does anybody know or know where I can find specs on automotive power steering pumps (gpm, psi)? I saw a neat home-built system on the 'net for an antique tractor that used a belt driven power steering pump to power hydraulics and just wanted to work out the numbers before I follow suit.

Back in the 70's I put a power steering pump from an old Nash on my Power King tractor. Then I made a 2 1/2" cylinder. Bent everything on the tractor, so I used an axle from a chevy to put the arms on for lifting the implements. Worked fine since. Never even had to put new O-rings in the cylinder. I think the pump put out about 1100 pounds. Had all the pressure for what I needed.

Bill they do work fine for many things but I don't recommend them for loaders. We have found those we have used come in around 3.5 gpm which is low and also low pressure below 2000lbs. The pickups have the best pumps for it or try a larger truck, but they will pick up a plow blade and they will angle it. We have not added resivoirs or anything to them. You might also just look at a plow setup from a truck. ....

Thanks for the replies. That's just what I needed.
What I'm going to try to do is build a bolt on 3ph for the Farmall I'm restoring, using a pto or fan-belt driven pump to power it. Just need enough hydraulic power to lift a plow or maybe a lightweight scraper blade.

You might try useing it on the PTO but most M's are not live PTO. If you are making this modification you might also look at going to an alternator as well as the pump. It does get a little tight under the hood but we have done both and they can look good. Many of the plow pumps today are run electrically and with the alternator conversion they do a fine job to. A double pulley off the Alternator will give you a pulley to run your pump from. ....
